GammonEmpire is a program that enables you to play backgammon online with other players for free or even for real money. The only thing you have to do is download and install the program and then create an account. After that, you are ready to join open games or create your own. If you are new to the game and want to learn how to play, there's a Help button that takes you to a webpage explaining the rules and tricks of the game. What is more, you can also watch other people play and even chat with them. You start with a certain rating and it increases or decreases according to the number of matches you've won. Once you get acquainted with the system and rules of the game, you can even participate in all types of tournaments.
The user interface is really intuitive and it is available in multiple languages. In the Settings menu, you can set the type of board you wish to use and choose an avatar that identifies you. There are not so many to choose from, but they are funny and cute. The graphics are not excellent, but they are okay for this type of game and sound effects can be enabled or disabled as you wish. Unfortunately, there's no music to accompany the game.
